Fertility Awareness

For Teens and Single Women
All women can benefit from Fertility Awareness - tracking the signs of their cycles to know their bodies better.  Daily charting helps women to recognize the signs of a healthy cycle, and to note any irregularities such as painful periods, abnormal bleeding, or unusual discharge.  Fertility Awareness enables women to monitor their overall health and, if necessary, to provide valuable information to their doctors.

 For Engaged and Married Couples
Married love offers a matchless privilege to a husband and wife - through their  bodily expression of total love, spouses have the potential to bring forth new life!  This is both a great joy and responsibility.  Natural Family Planning (NFP) allows spouses to discern together what is God's plan for their family, while honoring the life-giving capacity of their marital union.
Natural family planning (NFP) is fertility awareness, which is simply knowledge of a couple’s fertility. It is a means of reading the body’s signs of fertility and infertility; applying this knowledge is over 99% effective in postponing pregnancy.

How do I learn to track my fertility?
There are many different ways, from free apps on your phone to books that teach you how. But studies show the best way to effectively use NFP is to learn one of the major methods taught by certified instructors. And by learning from live instructors, couples learn faster and with better success than on their own.

The two most common methods in the Toledo Diocese are the Sympto-Thermal Method (STM) taught by the Couple to Couple League (CCL) and the Creighton Model Fertility Care System.

Couple to Couple League
The CCL method is a simpler and quicker method to learn and is ideal for most couples.
CCL offers online self-paced classes or live in person classes taught regularly at our parish by a fully trained and certified local couple.  For more information visit ccli.org

Creighton
The Creighton Model can be very helpful for women who have cycle issues including PCOS, Endometriosis, heavy & painful periods and more.

INFERTILITY
1 in 6 couples will experience infertility at some point in their marriage.
If you or someone you know is struggling with infertility and are looking for a different approach to medical treatment we are happy to share with you that there is a highly effective alternative to traditional medical procedures, such as IVF. This alternative is called NaPro Technology. It doesn't violate our Catholic moral principals and it is 2 -3 times more effective than IVF for achieving pragnancy .  We are blessed to now have a number of NaPro physicians in our area including a full NaPro Clinic.
